Untangling the relationship between small and medium-sized enterprises and growth: a review of extant literature

Abstract The importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increased in the recent years, particularly since 2007, with intention to promote growth. This study aims analyse relationship between growth SMEs different elements influencing this linkage. For purpose, a systematic literature review was implemented. analysis identifies seven factors affecting SMEs’ financial performance: size, age, internationalization, network, innovation, public institutions, capital structure. These are significantly related smaller firms growth, firms’ aptitudes towards performance. In addition, there could influence each other increasing possibilities grow. Further research investigating gap is recommended.
